Palo Santo (bursera graveolens) + Cedarwood (juniperus virginiana)
What else could I have chosen for my ‘I am Balance’ candle than Palo Santo?. As a native Latinamerican woman I wanted to bring something from my region to your practice. If you have never worked with it I am happy to be the person that brings it to your life.

Palo Santo has been called magical, mystical, rare, sacred, and unique. This fragrant wood is highly regarded spiritually among shamans and healers and has been used in sacred rituals for purifying purposes for thousands of years by the Incas (native people from Peru). It clears and transforms negative energy from living spaces. It can be used in energy work. Both the air you breathe and your soul will feel much lighter after using and working with this candle.

I am empowering Palo Santo’s spiritual properties with cedarwood which has a powerful woody and uplifting aroma but more importantly, it fights feelings of negativity. It is grounding and calming and it aids counter anxiety, nervous tension, depression and tiredness.

I use this candle for a cleansing ritual. I simply light up my candle and let the scent fill the entire room while breathing and taking in its amazing benefits. For an aura brush I use a rose quartz or a snowy tumble. I run it down the four sides of my body and imagine it clearing any debris on the way down. I then take the tumble down to the earth and visualise anything that has been cleared being absorbed by the earth, and transformed back into light.

I also add sounds to transform and heal my surroundings, aura and my chakras. I use a tuning fork and bells for this. I really like using strong vibrations to transform energy fields. I do this almost everyday before connecting to my intentions. It also helps me to focus and brings my attention to the here and now.

To get the benefits from these candles just connect to your intention. Use a bell, a tuning fork or any other tool to bring your mind down to Earth. Trust that every element and natural resource used in these jars has come to your life with the intention of healing your soul and enhancing your wellbeing. That is my intention. To make these candles for you bringing you natural and holistic alternatives to enhance your journey.

Buddha Wood (Eremophila mitchellii) + Black Pepper (Piper nigrum)

For my ‘I am Spirit’ candle I focused on woody and resinous scents, which have soothing and grounding properties. They will help stop your mind from wandering during yoga or meditation. I love sandalwood, vetiver, and cedarwood scents and this small Australian tree combines all these in one. I would also describe it as buttery.  It is gentle but present, and is there with you to enhance your spiritual practice. Buddha Wood has stabilising effects. It will help steady the nerves. This oil will encourage your feelings and emotions to transform from a rocking boat to solid ground.

Black pepper is a warm and spicy oil. Its warmth brings a sense of clarity, improving focus and motivation. Its spiciness fights mental fatigue whilst increasing your level of concentration and stamina.

For meditation, stones such as lapis lazuli or fluorite can both take you within. Lapis awakens the third eye and enhances one's ability to visualise and receive visual guidance or information. Fluorite helps you to align to a higher guidance during meditation. Lapis clears and puts your focus on the Third Chakra, your third eye whereas Fluorite works through all chakras.

Ylang Ylang (Cananga Odorata) + Sweet Orange (citrus sinensis)

When thinking and imagining the scent of ylang ylang these words come to mind: vitality, sexuality, creativity, will. This essential oil has a great therapeutic value, as it lifts your mood while also having a calming effect. It has an exotic white flower scent. You can imagine yourself being in Asia or India and even Australia. It has an intense, sweet and floral aroma. Ylang Ylang means ‘flowers of flowers’ and is a flower that blooms in the tropical cananga tree, native to Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Australia.

Sweet orange is citrusy, sweet, calming, uplifting, refreshing and young. It eases muscle tension and it makes you feel alive.

The blending of ylang ylang with sweet orange creates an ideal surrounding for an intimate explosion of love, relaxation, tenderness, care, will and respect.

The crystal that comes to mind to include in this ritual is Fire Agate. It is a red colour stone, fiery, it increases action, vitality, sexuality, creativity and will. I personally need this stone as I have a lot of Air elements in my astrological chart and sometimes I can get lost in my own ideas and in the spiritual realm without taking any action down here on planet Earth.

It works on the lower chakras: Solar Plexus, Sacral and Root chakras. It helps align the etheric body into the physical realm assisting in manifesting one’s dreams, bringing ideas into life. It will push you to embrace your body and feel comfortable in your own skin.

'I am Power' inspiration

Rosemary (Rosmarinus) + Petitgrain (citrus reticulata) + Cinnamon leaf (cinnamomum verum):

This was the scent that took me the longest to figure out.  I love the most energising essential oils which I use in my everyday routine as a holistic ‘lift me up' therapy.

I am using rosemary essential oil as it is a refreshing and restoring herb. I learned that while this herb is widely used in food, it has also been utilised in medicine and religious ceremonies for centuries. It has a wide variety of benefits but one of its main properties is that it improves focus and it helps to clear the mind. It stimulates the nervous system and increases circulation to the brain, assisting in improving one's memory, concentration and mental alertness. It is meant to help revive, strengthen, and rejuvenate the senses.

I LOVE the citrusy scents as they are uplifting. I thought of including petitgrain to the mix. Although petitgrain is not a citrusy scent per se it is an oil extracted from the leaves and the twigs of the orange tree. Some think that it smells very similar to Neroli. Neroli is extracted from the flowers of the orange tree and that is where their similar scent comes from. Petitgrain has a floral aroma and green notes, blending very well with the freshness and green scent of the Rosemary. Petitgrain calms the body and mind and it counters nervous exhaustion and stress related conditions like anger and panic.

I personally picked rosemary and petitgrain as they are reviving and uplifting. They will bring up feelings of motivation and activation, exhilaration and refreshment. This combination will help your mind and body to wake up and stay alert. This candle is the ideal work colleague. It will cheer you up, calm you down and make you smile. Especially when working from home.

What about the dash of cinnamon? It is a spice that fights exhaustion and depression. I did not want to make it too noticeable as we tend to link cinnamon with Christmas. Although it is not obvious in the candle, you will get the benefits of it.

To empower my day even further I use a gorgeous citrine. They help with manifestation, personal will, mental clarity and creativity. Citrine stimulates imagination through the Root (1st), Sacral (2nd) and Solar Plexus (3rd) chakras. It activates and harmonises these three energy centres that are necessary for the process of creative imagination.

Lavender (lavandula angustifolia) + Roman Chamomile (Chamomilla recutita):

For the ‘I am Serenity’ candle I was inspired by the thought of lavender and chamomile, not only because of their aromatic and calming effects but also because they share the same components (lynaly acetate and linalool). Chamomile, popular as a herbal tea, assists you in bringing your irritability, nervousness and tension down. Lavender is one of the most well known essential oils. That is no surprise given its powerful relaxing and soothing  effects.

Combining these classic oils seems to be the perfect aid for creating feelings of relaxation, both physically and mentally. When lighting this candle, set your intention to be present, forget the past and stop worrying about the future. They do not exist. Breathe and just be in the here and now.

I enjoy having the ‘I am Serenity’ candle lit up next to an Amethyst crystal on my bedside table. The amethyst is an ideal stone for enhancement of one’s physical environment. Placing Amethysts in your home, meditation room or bedside table can bring the feeling that you are surrounded and protected by a purple light. To me, it is easy to associate Amethyst with Lavender due to its purple colour. Also, Amethyst opens and clears the third eye and the crown chakras.

P.S.: When buying your stones/crystals/ geodes make sure that they certify or work towards fair trade to ensure all parties in the supply chain are fairly paid.
